Makassar — The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Hasanuddin University, welcomed 267 new students during the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB).
In 2026, Hasanuddin University admitted 10,401 new students, including 694 students joining the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This figure places FMIPA as the fifth-largest faculty at Hasanuddin University in terms of new student enrollment this year.
Of the 694 new FMIPA students, 267 students, or 38.47 percent, are enrolled in the Department of Mathematics. In other words, nearly four out of every ten new FMIPA students in 2026 are part of the Department of Mathematics.
The 267 new students are enrolled across three study programs. The Mathematics Study Program welcomed 75 students, consisting of 47 female and 28 male students. The Information Systems Study Program admitted 116 students, with an equal distribution of 58 female and 58 male students. Meanwhile, the Actuarial Science Study Program welcomed 76 students, consisting of 36 female and 40 male students.
In the committee report, the Chair of the Department of Mathematics PKKMB Committee expressed pride and extended a warm welcome to all new students who are now officially part of the Hasanuddin University Department of Mathematics community.
The new students are encouraged to see PKKMB not only as an introduction to university life, but also as the beginning of their academic journey, character development, and the process of building strong connections within the Department of Mathematics.
The PKKMB program also serves as an opportunity for students to become familiar with the academic environment, faculty members, university community, and learning culture before beginning their formal lectures.
The organizing committee also expressed its appreciation to the university, faculty, and department leadership, lecturers, committee members, student mentors, and all parties who contributed to the successful implementation of the 2026 PKKMB of the Department of Mathematics.
With 267 new faces joining the department this year, the Department of Mathematics at Hasanuddin University hopes to nurture a new generation of students who will grow academically, achieve excellence, collaborate effectively, and make meaningful contributions throughout their studies.
